Claudia Ward, CDP

Sister Claudia Ward is in internal ministry at Providence House, in Kingston, Mass. Prior to that, she taught at St Bridget School in Abington, Mass. (1965–66), and at Sacred Heart Elementary in Kingston (1968–84). She was vocation director/formation for the Community from 1984–91, in Kingston, and she was provincial director from 1991–2001. She was the area assistant in Kingston from 2001–2013.

Sister Claudia recalls the Sisters of St. Joseph of Boston as her greatest influence to enter religious life. They taught her in high school, and she remembers them as wonderful educators. She says, “Their spirit of joy and commitment greatly influenced me.” She entered the Sisters of Divine Providence in 1962.

Of living out the charism of the Sisters, she says, “In our mission statement, it says that we ‘commit ourselves to co-create a world of compassion, justice, and peace.’ Our world today is surely in need of compassion, justice, and peace. It is important to me that we do this first within our own sphere as Sisters. Then we will be enabled to meet others with true compassion, justice, and peace.”

In 2012, Sister Claudia celebrated her 50th jubilee.
