Margaretta Nussbaumer, CDP

Sister Margaretta Nussbaumer entered religious life from St. Anne’s Parish in Castle Shannon, PA. She cites the Sisters of Divine Providence who taught her in school for encouraging her vocation.

Sister Margaretta began her ministry in education, teaching in the Diocese of Pittsburgh for 13 years (1964-77). For 42 years, she served in parish ministry as a pastoral associate at St. Margaret of Scotland Parish in Pittsburgh (1977-89), Transfiguration Parish in Monongahela, PA (1989-2002) and Immaculate Conception Parish in Washington, PA (2002-2019). Since 2019, she has served as a part-time receptionist at Immaculate Conception Parish. She also distributes Holy Communion to the Catholic patients at Washington Hospital and homebound shut-ins; works with the ChristLife team, small prayer groups and parish life committee at Immaculate Conception Parish; and participates with the Sisters of Divine Providence Associates in Washington County.

She says, “The aspect of my religious life that I have found most satisfying and rewarding is empowering others to be involved in their faith however they feel God is calling them to serve. It is so wonderful to sit back and see these folks blossom and shine in their service to God."

Self-described as organized, persevering and a good listener, Sister Margaretta enjoys walking, movies and helping others.
