Barbara Horenkamp, CDP

Sister Barbara Horenkamp, formerly Sister Mary Louis, entered religious life in 1963. She credits the Sisters of Divine Providence who taught her in grade school with influencing her decision to become a Sister.

Sister Barbara earned a bachelor of science in biology from Marillac College and a master’s degree in education from the University of Missouri-St. Louis. She taught at Mary Queen of the Universe School in Lemay, Mo. (1966–67), Ascension School in Normandy, Mo. (1967–74), and St. Mary-St. Mark School in Venice and Madison, Ill. (1974–77). She was principal at St. Mary-St. Mark School (1977–86) and at Mount Providence School in Normandy, Mo. (1986–96).

She says of her life as a religious, “I see the Providence of God at work in my life every day. No matter what happens, good or bad, God is there in the midst of it, caring for me.”

Describing herself as “funny, positive, and competent,” Sister Barbara enjoys reading, puzzles, and keeping in touch with friends. Presently, she is the school secretary at St. Dominic Savio School in St. Louis, Mo. She has been in this position since 1997.
